Exotic and warm, culturally rich and humbling in its unique beauty. Thailand possesses a warmth and allure like no other place on earth. There is something for everyone in The Land of Smiles, and this itinerary will leave you gaping in awe and overwhelmed by the sights, smells and flavours that had escaped you until now.
Your tour begins with transfers to Montreal for your International flight to Bangkok, a city steeped in culture, history and unfathomable shopping delights! Visits to the Golden Buddha, Grand Palace and a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River reveal glowing golden rooftops and solid teak houses awaits as does cuisine to suit any pallette and luxurious hotel accommodations.
Next our tour takes us to Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The spectacular ruins of this 14th century ancient city have been preserved in true Thai style and are breathtaking. Journeying north to Sukhothai, which presided as Thailand’s capital from 1238-1376, you’ll explore this walled city that created a legacy of a unified nation of Thai people and has a phenomenal artistic heritage.
Later, arrive in Lampang, the north’s second largest town and an important centre for the teak industry. Lampang is located in a picturesque valley surrounded by mountains.
Travel through the countryside to Chiang Rai in the heart of the Golden Triangle. Travel to the highest peak on the Thai-Myanmar border.
Enjoy the picturesque landscape along the Mekong River area by long tail boat. Cross the river on this unique vessel to Laos. Next, travel south to Chiang Mai, known as the “Rose of the North”. This city is famous for diverse cuisine, dialects and architecture, as well as the celebration of many festivals. Tour the cottage industries area and see the local artisans at work. A scenic drive to the hills of Chiang Mai brings you to the heart of the Teak Forest where you will witness elephants at work & play at Maesa Elephant Camp and visit a beautiful orchid farm.
Enjoy a Hill Tribe cultural show and witness the traditions and dance of the Hill Tribe people. Visit a jade factory and learn the history of this luminescent stone. Don’t miss the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, with its thousands of vendors, artisans and places to sample true Northern Thai cuisine as well as International fare. A short flight brings you back to Bangkok. Today you may wish to take an optional tour of legendary American businessman Jim Thompson’s house.
This magnificent Thai-styled home contains an extensive collection of art objects and antiques. Thompson single-handedly revived the Thai silk industry after WWII and then mysteriously disappeared.
