16 Day Tour
Two of Eastern Canada’s greatest destinations. Nowhere else in all of our great Nation will you find as much warmth amongst its people as you will on this tour. Stand on Signal Hill and view one of the greatest city harbours in all of North America. Sail across the strait of Belle-Isle and step back a few hundred years to the era of the great whale hunts. Drive along the south arm of Gros Morne National Park. Visit the site of the landing of the Vikings. We have named but a few of the places you’ll have the opportunity of visiting.
Day 1 Cornwall-Grand Falls N.B. It’s a beautiful drive along the south side of the St. Lawrence River to Riviere Du Loup, then traveling due east into the province of New Brunswick and our overnight stay at Pres Du Lac.
Day 2 Grand Falls-Moncton It’s a full day with lots to see, starting off with the falls of Grand Falls, the largest cataract east of Niagara then the longest covered bridge in the world at Hartland. Our lunch stop will be in the Fredericton area. This afternoon our local tour guide will give us a tour of this capital city, before heading to Moncton for our overnight.
Day 3 Moncton-Sydney It’s one of those nice relaxing days today as we head for the Island of Cape Breton. We’ll travel the south shore of Bras D’Or Lake and stop at Rita’s Tea Room for an afternoon break.
Day 4 Sydney-Corner Brook, Newfoundland It will be our first ferry crossing today as we cross the Cabot Strait and dock at Channel-Port aux Basques. Our Newfoundland adventure is about to begin. You’ll enjoy the warmth of these wonderful people. You’ll be hard-pressed to travel this great land of ours and find a friendler people than the Newfoundlander. Tonight’s hotel overlooks the breathtaking Humber Arm.
Day 5 Cornerbrook-L’Anse-Au-Clair Its a nice relaxing drive this morning as we make our way north and explore part of Gros Morne Park with our local tour guide. After lunch in Rockey Harbour, we’ll make our second ferry ride, this time from the shores of Newfoundland to Labrador, across the Strait of Belle-Isle and Iceburg Alley.
Day 6 We’ll visit Red Bay, a small community that speaks of the Basque Whaling industry that thrived here all along the coast over 400 years ago. A visit to the museum will connect you with ancient traditions that keep folklore and ancient crafts alive today. The museum will also reveal the gripping story of the oil-laden San Juan that sank in 33 feet of water in Red Bay. How about some tangy baked apples fashioned into a pie? Locals call them cloud berries- a lumpy-looking golden fruit that grows in profusion in south Labrador. Lessons in sea lore, sea-washed scenery, down home hospitality and good food sums up this day beautifully.
Day 7 L’Anse-au-Clair-Plum Point We head back across the strait of Belle-Isle, making a visit this afternoon to L’Anse-aux-Meadows, National historical site of the first European
settlement in North America.
Day 8 Plum Point-Gander We’re backtracking a bit today making our way back down the highway to Deer Lake for our lunch stop. The central part of Newfoundland will be our journey this afternoon making our way to a city that played a tremendous part during the last war. Friendliness is not just a word in Newfoundland… it’s a way of life
